Dehulled and heat-treated oat grain, known as oat groats, is made from high-quality oats that have been cleaned, sorted, dehulled, and kilned. The kilning process enhances their toasty flavor and extends shelf life.
Oat groats are highly versatile and can be used in healthy side dishes, breads, soups, oat drink production, and many other applications. When prepared as porridge, they take longer to cook than oat flakes but reward the effort with a hearty, flavorful texture; soaking them overnight reduces the cooking time from about 40 minutes to just 15. Cooked oat groats also serve as an excellent side dish comparable to rice, couscous, quinoa, or bulgur, with a cooking time of around 12 minutes.
